Blog #2 The Creative Me

Cartoon Ron
Hello again everyone, welcome back to my blog. I feel I have to express myself to everybody about the major I have chosen to study in TCI.  I choose to take up digital media arts as my major. I have declare my interest in this field of creative arts and technology. The Media arts field became what I love and have a passion for since I first receive my first computer during the time I was in junior high school.

Let me give u a back story on my interest in the field. I was not into computers when I was young but had a interest in cartooning and animation. I was an artist who along with my brother who was one of the best illustrators in our grade school. Me and my brother always draw anytime or chance we had with paper in our possession. If we weren’t playing with our toy action figures, we would be drawing on paper sitting by the window on a rainy day. Paper was the most valuable item to us. When we were short on supply, we would literally cut the paper in half to just make it look like we had more. Because of this, my mom always bought paper over toys which was cheaper and affordable for her. She was a single mom that couldn’t afford a lot of things for us. She was happy to support us because we gotten our talent from our father, a fellow artist which she loved him for.

Later during this time, I also grown an interest in film. I loved movies to death. I was a film buff who watch any film I had a chance of seeing. It didn’t matter if the film was a boring drama or romance which was usually gear towards a female crowd, I watch them all. I am a big Steven Spielberg fan. He is my favorite director. I'm also a fan of Spike Lee when it comes to black films. Became of my knowledge of them. I would do research on history of film and animation just for the love of it. It is one of those things we have a passion of learning on our own time based on interest.

When I was attending the high school of art and design, I took cartooning. I liked it but not loved it as much as I would been. I thought I would be learning to animate characters but instead we was taught more on comic book art. By senior year, I became more focus on film as I begin bringing my grandmother camcorder to school. I became the school helmet cam guy videotaping school hijinks. I even did a half hour parody skit on a crossover between ghetto hood films and kung fu flicks.

When it was time to decide what college to go to, I had a conversation with my counselor. She told me with my passion for both cartooning and film media that I should take up Media Arts. This is why I chose Digital Media Arts. It combines more than one major together that relates or connects to each other. It is so many ways you can go when achieving a degree in this course. It possess many fields of interest besides film and animation, like for the most part computers.

Where at a time now when the digital age has taken over. We no longer going to have DVDs or BluRays much sooner than expected. Everyone of us would be downloading or streaming movies and TV shows. Computers and the technology around it will be an important aspect in our lives. Mobile devices like cameras, laptops, tablets, and mp3 media players are already incorporated in our everyday life.

TCI College

This is a reason why we need Digital Media Arts in our colleges. My passion for the major is why I want it. These past several years, I learn to love computers and became a mobile gadget fiend. Computers bridges the gap between film and cartooning. We need it to create effect and make our work come to life at ease. It is already given me hands on experience in applications as Photoshop, Flash, and Illustrator. I am still learning how to make Blogs like this and creating photo designs in Photoshop. Digital Media Arts combines graphic arts, Internet application, web design, interactive multimedia just as much or solely  than film, video, and cartooning. This is why I choose this major. It combines everything I am into right now and it is the most interesting subject in TCI. I would of never attended this college if they did not have a major in it.

In conclusion, I hope to learn a substantial lot in this field and help broaden my arisen. My goals to achieve a degree in the career of my choice in Media Arts while still try to further my education in this field. I hope to one day reach the field in film and animation or web design creating a home for all artist like me. My path starts here in TCI.

Blog #1 Adjusting to college life

Hello everyone, Welcome to my first Blog. I am currently a transfer student in my first semester here in TCI. I have gotten a book called " College Rules" from school my instructor request me and my classmates to read. I have just read Chapter 1, "You're in the Big Time Now" and Chapter 2, "Where to Find the Help You Need.

The book is sort of a self-help guide to being a college student in our everyday life. It also shows us how to balance our life between college, work, and family. In chapter 1, page 9, the Author gives us a summary chart of keywords to follow. Words such as Self-Discipline, Motivation, A Game Plan, Patience, and others learning strategies.

I must say these tips in the book help me to prepare and understand the importance of preparation in college. The text style and format makes this book interesting to read with its funny quotes student values. I admit, the book bought back memories to me when I was in another college a while ago. I felt nervous meeting people like I did back then. The book did not reflect that much on me other than my peers and preparation for college.

After reading the book, I still have more adjustments to make than I was prepared. I have not been in college in several years and I went threw a lot of running around to retrieve information on my whereabouts in college earlier. I was getting transcripts and info on finance and living arrangements. I now have to adjust and get use to my school schedule and my life around my son. I'm am still not use to my schedule yet but it will all be worth it at the end.

School is important to me and I want to show my son even is father wants to continue his education to achieve his dream in life. I hope to continue my education and finish this time in TCI. My son is inspirational enough to me to ensure success. This is to any new freshman or transfer student whose a parent like myself interested in going to TCI. I would do my research first on the curriculum and then decide if I can adjust my schedule and dedicate my time for it. Good luck to everyone pursuing their education in their career. The path starts here in TCI.
